Manuel Torres, recipient of the 2025 Gold Medal of Navarre for his “genuine innovative spirit and vision for job creation and internationalization.”
The Gold Medal of Navarre is the highest honor bestowed by the regional government, awarded annually to recognize exemplary actions, both personal and collective, as perceived by the public. It aims to highlight contributions to democratic values, the promotion of solidarity initiatives, and work for the benefit of the community
The award also seeks to recognize achievements that contribute to building a more just and equitable society across various fields, including culture, social work, gender equality, women´s social contributions, the promotion of education, health, the environment, social progress, enhancing Navarre´s image abroad, and, as in this year´s case, the business sector.
The jury, comprised of officials from different departments of the Navarre Regional Government, may propose up to three candidates to the Government of Navarre from among all those submitted for the Gold Medal. This year, of the nine nominations received, the jury decided by majority vote to submit only the nomination recognizing Manuel Torres Martínez. Therefore, the Government of Navarre, in a working session, awarded this prize posthumously.
The award, first presented in 1982, has recognized prominent figures such as Pope John Paul II, paleontologist José Miguel Barandiarán, sculptor Jorge Oteiza, and cyclist Miguel Induráin, as well as organizations and associations like Medicus Mundi, ANFAS, the Navarre Brain Injury Association, the Public University of Navarre (UPNA), Club Atlético Osasuna, and the National University of Distance Education (UNED). In 2024, the award was given posthumously to sociologist Mario Gaviria.
