Our founder
Manuel Torres Martínez
Manuel Torres Martínez founded MTorres Diseños Industriales SAU in 1975. Born in Aljucer (Murcia) on July 6, 1938, he began his professional life as maintenance manager at Grupo Svenska Celulosa. After working for Papelera Navarra (Grupo Huarte), he decided to found his own company in the town of Torres de Elorz, Navarre.
He initially focused on the design and manufacture of industrial automation systems for the paper converting industry. With the first patent for a reel splicer, he installed his machine on five continents in just one year.
In 1986, it started its activity in the machine tool sector. Taking advantage of the experience acquired, it provided solutions for the main manufacturers in the aeronautical industry.
In 1997 a new plant was inaugurated in Fuente Álamo (Murcia), with advanced facilities to expand the industrial and technological capabilities for the aeronautical sector, in which MTorres had achieved a relevant position, thus initiating the creation of an industrial group.
In 1999, the group started research and design activities in the environmental field, developing a 1500 kW synchronous multipole wind generator with carbon fiber blades. A few years later, in 2004, MTorres Ólvega Industrial was created with headquarters in the town of Ólvega (Soria) in order to meet the industrial needs in the field of wind turbines.
The year 2003 saw two important milestones in the history of MTorres. On the one hand, MTorres Desarrollos Energéticos, SL was founded for the promotion and operation of wind farms; and on the other hand, MTorres expanded its business by opening an office in the German town of Stade, in order to serve the broad customer base it already had in the aeronautical sector.
The group took a further step towards its expansion in 2000 with the opening of a commercial office in Santa Ana (California, USA) to strengthen the company´s presence in the American aeronautical market. This was the first step for the constitution, years later, in 2012, of MTorres America, located in the city of Seattle (Washington) thus enhancing its service capacity.
The group´s expansion was completed in 2013, with the inauguration of the Brazilian headquarters.
Manuel Torres passed away on November 5, 2020, as president of the MTorres industrial group, with production, sales and technical assistance offices in Spain (Navarra, Murcia and Madrid), Germany (Stade, Nordenham and Augsburg), England (Bristol), the United States (Seattle, Green Bay, Kinston and New Jersey), Brazil (Sao José Dos Campos), Saudi Arabia (Riyadh), Russia (Ulyanovsk), China (Shanghai and Harbin) and Japan (Nagoya).
Among his many merits, recognitions and distinctions, the following stand out: the National Innovation Award, in 2015, presented by the Prince of Asturias, Don Felipe de Borbón; the Cross of Carlos III El Noble, granted by the Government of Navarra, in 2016; the Gold Medal of the Region of Murcia, awarded by the Government of the Region of Murcia, in 2017; the Doctor Honoris Causa degree from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, in 2017; and the Gold Medal of the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Navarra, in 2019, presented by HM King Felipe VI of Spain.
