The local goverment of the Region of Murcia agreed, on May 10th, to award our president, Manuel Torres, with the Community Gold Medal, the highest recognition of this Spanish region.

This award recognises that "Manuel Torres is the founder and president of the industrial group MTorres. His career has been connected to innovative initiatives associated with business. In 1975 he founded the industrial group MTorres, form by six companies with about 500 highly qualified employees. The group owns 168 patents and exports its products to more than 70 countries. Manuel Torres has always been committed to innovation and technology in different sectors such as aeronautics or energy and dedicates a high percentage of his company's turnover to R&D investment. He is a member of the Advisory Council for Science and Technology of the Ministry of Industry and jury of the Science and Technology Prince of Asturias Award”.


Along with our President, other authorities and associations have been also awarded, such us the Letters and Philosophy Departemnt of the University of Murcia; the chef Raimundo González; the Organ Donation and Transplant Program; the Third Sector Platform; the basketball player and olympic medal, Laura Gil; The artists 'Muher'; and, posthumously, the former president of the Central Syndicate of Irrigators of the Tajo-Segura Aqueduct, José Manuel Claver.


What does the Medal of the Region of Murcia means?


The Medal of the Region of Murcia is a Spanish civil award, granted by this region along with other honors and distinctions. Its purpose is to reward artistic, scientific, cultural, sporting, health or any other activities that are considered relevant. The Medal of the Region of Murcia has two different categories: Gold medal and Silver medal.



With the exception of members of the Spanish Royal Family, any Spanish authority can not be granted when they are still active. This award has an honorific character and does not generate any economic benefit. It is granted by Decree of the Council of Government of this Spanish region, being obligatory its publication in the Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia.
