Clean Room

A High-Productivity Machine

MTorres has based its growth in its constant effort to innovate, therefore the R&D have been the key in the development of new products.

The fullfillment of this ongoing effort took place in February 2012 with the opening of a new laboratory for composite materials. The MTorres R & D Laboratory for Composite Materials is what is called a 'clean room'. That is, the conditions of room temperature, humidity and presence of contaminating particles can be controlled in order to ensure the correct manufacturing of composite components.

Inside the clean room we can find the automatic fiber placement TORRESFIBERLAYUP machine, designed and developed by MTorres whose features allow us to perform tests and trials and investigate different solutions for different materials and manufacturing processes. The dimensions of the machine enable the manufacture of components up to 10 meters long, 4.5 meters wide and 1.5 meters deep. The machine includes a fiber-placement head, able to laminate 16 carbon fiber tows, of 6.35 mm width each.

THE DATA:  the conditions of room temperature, humidity and presence of contaminating particles can be controlled in order to ensure the correct manufacturing of composite components.

Additionally, the machine has a second "ram" where a range of heads can be installed to allow other types of materials and/or shapes. The machine configuration enables great flexibility to develop and test new products and materials, what gives MTorres the development capacity and innovation you need.

One of the main purposes of the lab is to put our abilities to our customers’ disposal, so we can carry out tests in the machine together, not only to prove Mtorres cutting edge technology, but also to define MTorres production processes for new products.

Our philosophy, based on the innovation and development of long-term relations with our customers, has boosted the development of some innovative productive processes, which lead the way for future aircraft components manufacturing.

Our R&D machine has the option to change its heads. We have 16-tow fiberplacement heads, with ½” and ¼” width each tow. With them, we have the flexibility required to cover most of the aeronautical applications. We also have a second Z axis where different head typologies can be installed for other materials and/or shapes.
